The Great British Menu
As you may have seen, I have lately been taking part in the BBC2 TV series the ‘Great British Menu’
This has been a great experience for me. It's been fantastic to get to know the other chefs in the programme and to share different ideas about our cooking styles. And it was also tremendous fun to compete in the first round of programmes with Anthony Worrall Thomson and in the second round of programmes with Sat Baines.
Personally, as I said on the programme, I didn’t agree with all the judges decisions ( and by the way some of the dishes that didn’t get through were fantastic!) but at the end of the day the food chosen was a strong reflection of meals from across Great Britain.
Working with Sat Baines was certainly an eye opener as our two styles are toally contrasting but perhaps we meet in the middle with the quality of the end results. After working with Sat, although I said I never would, we now have a waterbath in the Morston Hall kitchen.
Having tried all the dishes that went through to the final stages, my final menu for the first programme would have been the following -
- My Wild Mushroom and Asparagus
- Richard Corrigan’s Salmon
- Bryn Williams Welsh Lamb
- Marcus Wareing’s Custard Tart
